Lecture Details: |
In the fourth aliyah (section) of Parshas Shemos, Moshe meets Hashem in the burning bush, and is charged with the task of leading the Jewish people out of Mitzrayim. Moshe asks Hashem how he should respond to the Jewish people when they ask who sent him. Hashem first responds cryptically with the name Eheyeh-I will be, and continues with the name of havayah, the name that we do not pronounce. The name havayah is the fundamental principal that G-d was, is, and will be. However, we do not see this consistent reality through events in our world. Therefore, Hashem begins with Eheyeh-I will be-an expression of unfulfilled promises waiting to be completed. The process of redemption is going from Eheyeh to the name of havayah, stringing together the past in line with the future to recognize the revelation of Hashem. |
